Instructing Zappa & Company

We accept instructions by email or telephone. Our own adjusters manage the investigation and report to the instructing insurer in English or Italian, as required.

Sending an instruction

Please provide the following information where available:

  • The policy wording, schedule and relevant endorsements.
  • The loss notification and a brief description of the circumstances.
  • Correspondence with the insured, claimants or other parties.
  • The site address and contact details for access.

Please let us know if the matter is urgent or subject to a court deadline. You can contact us before the complete documentation is available, particularly where evidence may be lost during clearance or repairs.

Investigation and initial assessment

We acknowledge the instruction, review the information available and identify the matters requiring investigation. We inspect the site as appropriate, document the damage and determine whether testing, monitoring or specialist input is needed.

We provide an initial assessment of the cause, extent and likely value of the loss for reserving purposes, identifying material uncertainties. We update our assessment as further evidence becomes available and reinstatement progresses.

Reporting and potential recoveries

Our reports explain the evidence, the causal analysis and the basis of valuation. We distinguish technical findings from policy considerations and matters requiring legal advice, supporting the insurer’s coverage and claims decisions.

Where we identify potential design, workmanship or supply failures, we document the findings relevant to possible recovery against the responsible parties.

Remote inspection and ClaimVision

We have used remote video inspections since 2017 through ClaimVision, our in-house system. Where suitable, remote inspection supports initial assessment, straightforward claims, follow-up checks and the recording of conditions that may change before a site visit.

The method is selected to suit the evidence required. Where an investigation calls for opening-up works, sampling, physical testing or joint inspection with other parties’ experts, we arrange an on-site assessment. Remote inspection forms part of the investigation where it can provide reliable and relevant evidence.

Independence and conflicts

We act for insurers and assess claims on the evidence. We check for conflicts of interest before accepting an instruction and decline assignments where a conflict exists.
